What is it?
Square Runner is a game I originally made with Game Maker, then in Flash using a programming language called Haxe. It is a game where you have a spaceship and you have to navigate a sea of obstacles in your way. There are also powerups you can collect to help you survive the level.
I am currently working on port of Square Runner to my Java game engine, GagsEngine. The original Flash version is posted at the bottom of the page

Square Runner (GagsEngine)
This is one of my current projects. I decided to port Square Runner Flash to my Java game engine, GagsEngine. Listed below are my demos, listed newest to oldest
Demo 5: The Beginnings of Classic ModeThe classic mode from Square Runner Flash is back in part!
Only one level is playable so far. Press Esc to go back to the menu after the first level From the Options mode, you can now change the color of the ship! Changes: - Classic mode functional - New Options mode that lets you change the ship color - New invincibility animation |
To Do:
- Credits
- Move stats up to top of the screen to make room for instructional text
- Level selection
Demo 4: Improved Infinity ModeInfinity Mode is fully functional!
Changes:
Next time: Adding in the classic levels with some changes! |
Demo 3: Infinity ModeThe first thing you will notice when you play this demo is that the game has been moved to the "Infinity Mode" button. This is because the previous demos have been close enough to my idea of an Infinity Mode, so I decided to expand upon it.
You will also notice that you cannot fire lasers, become invincible, or get a key by pressing K anymore. They were present in earlier demos in order to test certain functionality. They will become available again in future demos. Here is how the new wave system works:
The basic format for the Infinity Mode is complete, yet there is still more to add! I have 5 powerups to add to the game. Also, I will add many more lines of blocks to the list to keep the game interesting for a longer period of time Other revisions:

Demo 2: BlocksIn this demo, my primary focus was to add all types of blocks to the game. The full list of blocks is as follows:
Other additions to this demo:

Demo 1 - Baby StepsThis game is boring! there's nothing to do except navigate through menus! Time to add some objects to the game!
However, we can't do everything all at once. Let's start small. We need a player object, and we need the basic Block object before moving on. Here's a list of things I added to this demo: Player:
Block:

Square Runner Flash
Back when I was using the programming language called Haxe, I ported Square Runner to Flash and expanded upon it. Below is the final demo before I stopped working on it:
Bugs to Address
- No Credits mode
- No Achievements mode
- No Options mode
- No Infinity mode
- Blocks move too quickly for the average player
- Levels do not have titles
- Tutorial Levels would be helpful
